Built inside a working music studio.
Not designed for music studios from the outside. Written to run one, by the person running it, and then made general enough to run yours.
B♭ Studio started as the software one studio needed and could not buy. Lessons in one system, money in a spreadsheet, repairs in a notebook by the bench, and a monthly ritual of reconciling all three by hand.
The thing that fell out of building it is the thing it is now sold on: one customer, one account, one place to look. A family taking lessons who also brings a guitar in is the same account, and both bill into it — on different rhythms, because a repair cannot wait for the monthly cycle and a lesson should not be invoiced the moment it ends.
Everything that makes an install belong to a particular studio — the name, the logo, the colours, the timezone, the currency, the terms and conditions — is configuration. That is enforced: there is a test that reads the source of both applications and fails the build if any file hardcodes one studio’s name, currency symbol or timezone. If rebranding it meant editing a component, that would be a bug.
It is being opened to other studios now. That is what the early access list is for.
Questions we are already being asked.
- Can I try it today?
- No. B♭ Studio is not generally available. It runs one studio, and the early access list is how we find the next few — join it and we will get in touch when there is something worth your time.
- What does it cost?
- There is no price yet, and inventing one before anyone has used it would be a number designed to be revised. Early access conversations will settle it.
- Is my data mixed in with other studios?
- No. One install serves one studio, with its own database and its own integration credentials.
- Does it work without Microsoft 365?
- Not today. Staff sign-in is Microsoft Entra ID, and studio email goes out through Microsoft Graph. If you run on Google Workspace, say so when you join the list — it changes what we build next.
- Is there a portal for parents?
- Partly. Staff can grant portal access and view the portal as a customer, but the customer-facing screen currently shows who they are and what they can reach — not invoices, schedule or payment. That is the next thing being built, and we would rather say so than list it as a feature.
